The grapefruit

Today’s fruit was a grapefruit. We thought it looked like an orange and most of us thought it was going to be orange inside. Only a few people guessed it would be red. We all tried a bit, but only about half of us liked this one. We looked at the vocabulary, describing it as ‘sharp’, ‘yummy’ or ‘yucky’. We also learned today the difference between sweet and savoury things.

In English, we drew the fruit that we had tried during the week and had a go at spelling the sounds we could hear in the fruit: pineapple, kiwi, pomegranate and grapefruit. In maths, we used construction materials to make the numbers 1-4. Doing them like this, instead of writing them out, got us to think carefully about the shape of each number and how we were going to make that shape. In the afternoon we looked at moving and balancing in PE.
